The 4th Volta Cybersecurity Conference has successfully been held in Ho, bringing together technology experts, professionals, students, and key stakeholders to deliberate on pressing cybersecurity issues and the future of digital protection within the Volta Region and beyond.
Organized by the Genius IT Foundation in collaboration with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), Cyber Security Authority (CSA), and Ho Technical University (HTU), the conference continues to serve as a vital platform for raising awareness on cyber threats and promoting responsible online practices.
This year’s edition, themed “A Safe, Informed and Accountable Digital Space,” focused on empowering individuals and organizations with practical knowledge on how to stay safe in an increasingly digital world. Discussions centered on data protection, online fraud, child online safety, and the role of collaboration in building a safer cyberspace.
Key Sessions and Institutional Presentations

Several institutions and departments delivered insightful presentations, each highlighting their unique roles and challenges in maintaining a secure digital environment:
Ghana Police Service

The Police Service addressed the topic “Cybercrime and Law Enforcement: Understanding, Detection, and Prevention.”
Speakers explained how everyday digital activities can lead to cybercrime and shared real-life cases that have resulted in sentencing. They discussed distinctions between civil and criminal offenses, categories of cybercrime, and collaborative efforts with the Cyber Security Authority. The presentation emphasised the need for continuous training, public education, and community cooperation to effectively detect and prevent online crimes.
Ho Technical University (HTU)


Mr. Mawuli D. Agbenorto from HTU focused on “Cybersecurity Education: Risks, Motives, and Human Factors.”
They explored the psychological and social motivations behind cyberattacks, common tactics such as phishing and social engineering, and the importance of integrating cybersecurity into academic programs. The session highlighted the role of research, innovative teaching, and partnerships in nurturing a new generation of cybersecurity professionals who can protect Ghana’s digital infrastructure.
University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)


Mr. Patrick de Souza, representing the University of Health and Allied Sciences, spoke on “Cybersecurity in Education and Health Systems.”
The presentation delved into data privacy, protection of health records, and vulnerabilities in digital systems used in hospitals and universities. Participants learned about incident response strategies and the importance of building digital resilience within health and education institutions through regular audits, staff training, and improved IT governance.
Department of Gender


The Department of Gender addressed “Gender Perspectives in Cybersecurity: Addressing Online Safety, Harassment, and Inclusion.”
Discussions centered on online gender-based violence, cyberbullying, and the digital gender divide. The department underscored the need for awareness campaigns, legal protections, and advocacy to create safer digital environments for women and girls. The session also emphasised empowering women with digital literacy and cybersecurity knowledge to participate confidently in the digital economy.
Address by the Volta Regional Minister


In the Volta Regional Minister’s remarks presented by his representative, Col. Charles P. Debrah (VRCC Security Liason Officer) recognise, the Volta Regional Minister commended the Genius IT Foundation for four years of fruitful collaboration with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council. He noted that this partnership has brought real impact through community training, youth engagement, and awareness campaigns that help people , scams and make safer digital choices.
The Minister emphasized that as the Volta Region continues to grow in population and economic activity, digital safety must remain a key priority. He assured that the VRCC is fully committed to working with partners such as Genius IT Foundation, the Cyber Security Authority, and law enforcement agencies to ensure that cybersecurity becomes part of local development planning.
Looking ahead, he outlined three key priorities: expanding district-level cyber awareness programmes, setting up rapid response support for victims of online fraud, and strengthening cooperation between government, civil society, and the private sector.
He concluded with optimism, stating, “As our region grows in numbers and ambition, so must our commitment to protecting the people who live here — online and offline.”
Speech by the Executive Director – Desmond Kitsi


In the keynote address titled “Securing Our Digital Future Together,” Mr. Desmond Kitsi, Founder and Executive Director of the Genius IT Foundation, reflected on the Foundation’s four-year journey in leading cybersecurity awareness across the Volta Region.
He recounted the evolution of the conference, from its humble beginnings in 2022 with 50 participants at Winners Chapel International Church, to radio engagements in 2023, public outreach events at the MTN forecourt in 2024, and this year’s major collaboration with Ho Technical University.
Mr. Kitsi highlighted the Foundation’s achievements, including engaging over 500 students in 2025 and thousands since inception, while stressing that “cybersecurity is not a project, it’s a responsibility.” He acknowledged partners such as the CSA, HTU, Department of Gender, UHAS, and the Ghana Armed Forces for their continued collaboration in promoting digital safety.
Launch of New National Initiatives
As part of his address, Mr. Kitsi officially announced two major national initiatives aimed at expanding cybersecurity education and capacity building across Ghana:
- CyberSecure Ghana Campaign – a nationwide initiative to decentralize cybersecurity awareness by bringing education, training, and sensitization programs to schools, districts, and communities, ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind in the cyber safety conversation.
- Cybersecurity Professionals Network (CSPN) – a strategic network to connect cybersecurity experts and enthusiasts across Ghana and the diaspora. The CSPN will serve as a platform for mentorship, collaboration, and innovation in the field of digital defense.
His call to action urged all stakeholders — government, academia, businesses, and citizens — to take personal responsibility for cyber hygiene, data protection, and digital accountability. “Every child, every business, every institution deserves to be safe online,” he stated, concluding with a powerful message: “A secure Ghana is a strong Ghana.”
Commitment to the Future
The leadership of the Genius IT Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting digital literacy, innovation, and cybersecurity education across the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole. The 4th Volta Cybersecurity Conference marks another significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the Foundation, VRCC, and other stakeholders, reinforcing a shared vision of advancing technology and security awareness for sustainable regional development.
