In the wake of the global call to make the earth a safer place to live, it critical that the global community band together to begin regulating human activities that directly and indirectly affect our precious planet. For this reason, was the formulation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals will be realized by 2030 if everyone from all over the world works together to achieve them.
The Executive Director of Genius IT Foundation, Mr. Desmond Kitsi was present at the workshop to represent the foundation in this very important Voluntary National Report (VNR) Consultative Meeting organized by Youth Advocacy Ghana in partnership with UNDP.
This workshop saw diverse youth groups’ representatives from different parts of Ghana converging to make inputs to the national report on how Ghana is working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP
The purpose of this consultation workshop was to consult youth-led and youth-driven groups and organizations in Ghana to make contributions to the Youth SDGs Report, Ghana as part of the Voluntary National Review (VNR) for 2022. In an attempt to adhere to the “Leaving No One Behind” of the UN sustainable Development Corporation Framework, the Youth SDGs Report, Ghana seeks to capture youth-led and youth-driven innovative SDG-related interventions and assess the overall implementation and impact of SDGs on youth, and document strategies youth groups and organizations are adopting to build back from COVID-19.
Relevant Youth Groups across Ghana were required to voluntarily submit reports on their impact projects that in any way were geared towards helping achieve the goals set for 2030.
This is to help feed the National Report of Ghana with enough information on youth activities that are making significant impacts in helping achieve the SDGs.
This event took place on the 10th of June 2022 at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, Volta Region.
As part of the expected contributions from Stakeholders in this consultation workshop, the Executive Director, Mr. Desmond Kitsi (Genius IT Foundation) made significant contributions by helping review the 2019 VNR Report, discussing ways in which Genius IT Foundation among other organizations present is adhering to the “Leaving No One Behind” principles in their programs and activities.
Focused areas for these discussions were the areas of Geography, Discrimination, Governance, Socioeconomic status, and Shocks and fragility.
The workshop also discussed issues relating to how organizations are strategizing in bouncing back from the Covid-19 pandemic by looking at access to finance, difficulties these processes pose, and resources needed to implement the 2030 Agenda.
