Volta Region’s potential unlocks through science and technology

Nestled in the heart of Ghana, the Volta Region boasts a breathtaking landscape and is considered the tourism hub of the country. However, with the rapidly changing times, it has become clear that science and technology are the keys to unlocking the full potential of this region and driving economic growth and social progress.

During the 66th Independence Day Anniversary of the Republic of Ghana, held in Ho Municipality, the President of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo, and the Vice President were in attendance, and a live morning show was hosted concurrently to discuss the role of science and technology in the region. The event featured prominent guests, including the Executive Director of Genius IT Foundation, Desmond Kitsi, and the Director of Node Eight, Courage Asase.

During the Class FM and Ho FM morning show, Desmond Kitsi, the Executive Director of Genius IT Foundation, spoke passionately about the organization’s commitment to promoting STEM education in the Volta Region. He highlighted how the Foundation’s programs, such as the Genius IT Brainery and FUTECH, are designed to train professionals in the digital skills space and help children start with early engineering, digital, and entrepreneurial skills.

Kitsi also emphasized that the Foundation’s training programs are helping to lift the region into the realm of utilizing digital skills to promote businesses and empower women to participate effectively in the digital space. Genius IT Foundation is honing the skills of young people and professionals with digital, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills. The programs are open to graduates, unemployed individuals, nurses, doctors, teachers, lawyers, businessmen and women, and many others.

Moreover, the Genius IT Foundation has developed a program called the Computer Science for Teachers Training Program (CSTTP) to help teachers in the Volta Region gain mastery over using digital tools to help students with their understanding and skills acquisition.

It is evident that the Genius IT Foundation is committed to promoting STEM education and digital skills in the Volta Region and beyond, with the aim of creating a more technologically advanced and prosperous society.

Courage Asase, on the other hand, highlighted the various challenges facing the region and how Node Eight is working to incubate young businesses and provide access to opportunities for growth. Both guests stressed the need for young people and businesses to embrace the opportunities provided by science and technology and allow themselves to be groomed for international opportunities.
